FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT EXACTLY IS JUVÉDERM ULTRA XC?
JUVÉDERM Ultra XC injectable gel is for injection into the lips and perioral area for lip augmentation in adults over 21.
JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is a family of Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that are safe and effective surgical alternatives to smoothing facial wrinkles and folds. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, these types of fillers are the fastest growing nonsurgical aesthetic procedure in the United States. But all dermal fillers are not the same!
If you’re interested in being treated with this non-surgical treatment option, it is important to understand that not all dermal fillers are the same! There are many benefits when choosing JUVÉDERM® injectable gels.
JUVÉDERM® is a “next-generation,” non-animal dermal filler. It is made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally present and produced substance in the body, which plays an essential role in hydrating the skin and restoring natural volume. Because hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, no allergy skin tests are necessary prior to receiving treatment.
Utilizing advanced technology, you can expect long-lasting results with JUVÉDERM®. Because of the unique manufacturing process, JUVÉDERM® contains the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available hyaluronic acid dermal filler on the market, providing patients with extended results. This process also creates a smoother gel that flows consistently and easily into the skin to create a natural look and feel that mirrors the natural volume of skin tissue. Currently, JUVÉDERM® is the only filler on the market that possesses this gel consistency formulation. As of now, all other existing hyaluronic acid fillers are made of gels that have a more granular consistency, affecting the way it is injected and the results.
JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective in persons of color.
JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment method that can be done in as little as 10 minutes, are minimally invasive, does not require an allergy skin test, and requires minimal downtime or recovery post-treatment.
Because JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is available in two formulations, treatment can be personalized to address each patients’ unique needs. JUVÉDERM® Ultra can be used for contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds, whereas JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus, a more robust formula, can be used for volumizing and restoring deeper wrinkles and folds. This allows your provider to tailor treatment to meet your specific needs.
BEFORE TREATMENT
Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs, including Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, aspirin, high doses of Vitamin E, or Ginko Biloba one week prior to treatment. This will help to reduce the potential side effects such as bruising and/or swelling of the treated area(s).
Avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages before treatment to decrease the chances of bruising and/or swelling.
You cannot receive treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
If you have a history of oral herpes, you must pre-treat with an anti-viral medical three days before your receiving treatment
AFTER TREATMENT
Minimal side effects such as slight swelling, redness, and tenderness may occur after your treatment and usually resolves within 72 hours. To relieve discomfort a cold compress may be used immediately after treatment to soothe swelling. To do so, dip a cloth dipped in cold water, wring out excess water, and gently rest on the treatment area.
To avoid injuring your skin, avoid touching the treated area within 6 hours of treatment. After 6 hours, the area can be washed gently using antibacterial soap and water.
Avoid exposing the treated area to extreme hot or cold weather, including sunbathing, heat lamps, and extremely cold temperatures.
It is important to note that if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the injection punctures could trigger an outbreak.
